STRENGTHENING LITERACY CULTURE THROUGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS

Many schools already have a reading corner and a reading program for fifteen minutes before the lesson, but the reading habit of the students is still low because at home they do not read. Actually the school cannot work alone, the parents and the community must also help. This article discusses the strengthening of literacy culture through school and community partnership programs. The method used is literature review from international journals about family literacy and school partnership. The result shows that the literacy culture becomes stronger if the school, the family, and the community work together, for example through the reading activity at home, the village reading garden, and also the reading festival. But the program must be continued, not only one time. Therefore the school must make the program systematically and also evaluate it.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIGITAL FLASHCARDS IN IMPROVING ENGLISH VOCABULARY MASTERY: A STRUCTURED NARRATIVE REVIEW AND PEDAGOGICAL SYNTHESIS

Vocabulary is very important in learning English, but many students forget the words after the test because they only memorize the list. Nowadays there is an application like Quizlet and Anki that can be used to make digital flashcards on the handphone. This article discusses the effectiveness of digital flashcards in improving English vocabulary mastery. The method used is literature review from journals about vocabulary and mobile learning. The result shows that digital flashcards can help the students to remember the words because they must recall the meaning and the application will repeat the words that are still difficult. But if the card only contains the word and the translation, the students only know the meaning and cannot use the word in speaking or writing. Therefore the teacher must add example sentence, pronunciation, and also give the task to use the words.

TEACHERS' BELIEFS AND PRACTICES IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION: A STRUCTURED NARRATIVE REVIEW AND PEDAGOGICAL SYNTHESIS

Every teacher has their own belief about how the reading should be taught, and this belief will influence what they do in the classroom. Sometimes the teacher believes that the students must read actively but in the class the teacher only translates the text sentence by sentence. This article discusses teachers' beliefs and practices in teaching reading comprehension. The method used is literature review from international journals about teacher cognition and reading. The result shows that most teachers have a good belief about reading strategy and active reading, but the practice is often different because of the examination, the time, the big class, and also the textbook. Therefore the teacher needs training and also the chance to reflect on their own teaching so that the belief and the practice can be the same.

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION THROUGH LANGUAGE LEARNING: PROMOTING TOLERANCE AND INCLUSION IN EFL CLASSROOMS

Indonesia has many ethnics, religions, and languages, so the students in one class are not the same. The language subject can be used to teach them to respect each other. This article discusses multicultural education through language learning to promote tolerance and inclusion. The method used is literature review from international journals about multicultural education and intercultural competence. The result shows that language learning can promote tolerance if the material contains various cultures, the students are asked to discuss and to see from the perspective of the other people, and the teacher gives a chance for all the students to speak. But if the culture is only presented like the information about the food and the festival, the students will not learn to respect the difference. Therefore the teacher must design the material and the activity carefully.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, ETHICS, AND ACADEMIC LITERACY IN HIGHER EDUCATION LEARNING: A STRUCTURED NARRATIVE REVIEW AND PEDAGOGICAL FRAMEWORK

Nowadays the students in the university already use ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence to make their assignment, and the lecturer is confused whether it is allowed or not. This article discusses artificial intelligence, ethics, and academic literacy in higher education learning. The method used is literature review from journals and also the guidance from UNESCO. The result shows that artificial intelligence can help the students to find the idea, to make the outline, and also to correct the grammar, but if the students only copy the answer they will not learn anything. There is also the problem of the wrong information and the privacy. Therefore the university must make a clear rule and the lecturer must teach the students how to use it in an ethical way.
